How our donations are used

FAQ

How Are Menstrual Donations Used?

Our donations go toward:

-Education – This includes our signature IYKYK Workshops that address period management, building self-esteem, sustainability/safety in menstrual health products, and student advocacy.

-Menstrual Product Distribution -- We regularly serve more than 50 agency partners who, in turn, distribute pads, tampons, liners, and more to more than 10,000 individuals and families each year.

-Menstrual Equity Advocacy – Our work includes leading efforts to change laws and policies that make getting a period in public less burdensome. Our biggest accomplishment is the passage of a law in NJ that requires menstrual products in school bathrooms in Grades 6-12.

What Helps More, Menstrual Product Donations or Monetary Donations?

While we truly appreciate all support, monetary donations to Girls Helping Girls Period help us remain the most flexible and responsive. For example, when we get large donations of products, monetary gifts can be used to secure the storage needed, which is critical to our operation. If you are looking to donate in your community, we suggest reaching out to any agency or organization first to learn the specific need.

What Menstrual Products Are Needed?

If you choose to make a donation of products, GHGP only accepts new, sealed packages, and because we do not open them before sharing with clients, we prefer smaller packages to larger ones, as they can help more people. Ultrathin pads, of all absorbencies, are always the best bet, as almost everyone will use them. If you are in doubt about what is needed in your community, it's always best to first identify a recipient organization that can guide your work.

Where Does My Monetary Donation Go?

We buy menstrual products (though many are donated, of course.) We are able to support more than 50 organizations/partners because of the resources you provide, which allow us to purchase/receive products and store them, ensuring we almost always have ample items on hand that each agency needs for their clients.

Donations also support our education efforts, including workshops for groups, schools, and workplaces. And we could not advocate for real, systemic change, like ensuring that all students have pads and tampons available where they are needed (like in school bathrooms!) without your assistance. Thank you.

If I Donate Less, But Make It Monthly, Is That Better?

All donations are wonderful. But knowing you are in this for a sustained period of time helps us plan for the future. Monthly donations are a great way to do that.

Is My Donation Tax-Deductible?

YOUR GIFT IS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE

Girls Helping Girls. Period. is a 501(c)3. Your contribution to GHGP is fully tax-deductible. Our Tax ID number is 81-3778217.

Why I Donate

"It had never occurred to me that girls were actually missing school and work because they couldn’t afford these necessary supplies. Emma and Quinn’s story inspired me to donate to their cause. After they received my first donation I received a very personal thank you email from them. I was stunned. Well, I had to keep giving, so for the last six years, I send my support to them monthly.

It’s been wonderful to see the organization grow while watching the girls turn into young women. Monthly donations help the girls plan their budget, guarantee support to their clients and be sustainable for the future."

Annette Warder, Donor Since 2016

"Why I Donate"

"I first learned about this project when it was in its infancy, a school project. I was stunned and saddened to hear that girls missed school and women missed work because they could not afford period products. It seems such a simple issue to address.

As GHGP grew, educating all of us about the lack of education that young girls receive about their own bodies, I gained even more respect and my gratitude for the work that they do has increased. And, by openly addressing these issues, GHGP brings women together, strengthening all our voices."

Roberta Probber, Donor Since 2024

"Why I Donate"

"It's shocking how such basic necessities can be overlooked. Remembering those awkward Junior High years only makes it more apparent how crucial it is to have access to menstrual products.

No one should have to face that kind of anxiety on top of everything else. Supporting Girls Helping Girls Period is a powerful way to make a difference.

Let’s rally together and ensure everyone has what they need."
